YOU TOO CAN BREAK NEW MILESTONES!

WARNING!

You can only book online at https://www.planica-zipline.si

Be one of the ”Planica Eagles”

Flying from one of the world’s largest ski-flying hills used to be a dream of flying, reserved for top athletes who have been coming to the valley below Ponce for decades to break milestones and set world records. In Planica, for the first time in history, a man has flown over 100 metres as well as 200 metres, and all in all, more than 40 world records have been set on the slopes of the Planica Valley, the most of any ski jumping centre in the world.

Today, you can experience the sensations of Slovenian Eagles and the world’s jumping elite with the world’s steepest zipline descent over the “Planiška Velikanka”, officially the world’s largest ski-flying hill. The flight will give you the feeling of the heroes who have been setting historical milestones on the ski-flying hill for decades. Your spectacular flight will be 566 m long, reaching speeds of up to 85 km/h in just a few seconds.

You don’t need any further training to make the descent. The device is suitable for participants over 10 years of age and physical restrictions are mainly related to minimum and maximum weight and height. The minimum weight with equipment must not be less than 35 kg and the maximum weight with equipment must not exceed 120 kg (the weight of personal safety equipment is approx. 5 kg). The minimum height required for a person to descend unassisted is 140 cm.

In the case of a tandem descent, children from 5 years of age and upwards with a minimum height of 120 cm may also take part in the tandem descent, accompanied by their parents or guardians, provided that the combined weight of the two participants and their equipment does not exceed 120 kg and that the maximum body weight of the child when wearing a child harness does not exceed 40 kg.

IMPORTANT:

Bookings are only accepted via https://www.planica-zipline.si. On the day of the descent, you must first report to the reception in the main building of the Planica Nordic Centre, and you must be present on the landing platform at least 10 minutes before the booked date to receive your personal safety equipment and to familiarise yourself with the rules of use of the device.

Good luck!

WHERE TO NEXT?

Tamar Valley
Kranjska Gora, Slovenia

Planica, also known as the valley below Ponce Mountains, is a glacial valley in the north-western part of the Julian Alps. It is known for its rich sporting history and for hosting major ski jumping and ski flying competitions. In recent years, the ski jumping hills have been completely renovated and a modern Nordic Centre has been built to promote other Nordic disciplines in addition to ski jumping. Planica is bounded on the west by the Ponce Mountains (the highest peak is Visoka Ponca at 2274 m), on the east by Ciprnik (1745 m) and Sleme (1815 m), and on the south (in Tamar) by Mojstrovka (2366 m), Travnik (2379 m) and Jalovec (2645 m).

In front of the village of Rateče, there is a small swamp, which turns into a small lake with a beautiful view of the Planica Ponce Mountains during heavy rains.

A bike trip to Planica is an ideal family outing, also suitable for younger children. From the Reset Apartments, turn left and follow the cycling route towards Planica. Thanks to the well-paved cycling route, you can also use roller skates to get there. The trail runs along the northern edge of the Triglav National Park, just below the Vitranc ski slopes, and takes you directly into the valley below Ponce Mountains. In between, we recommend you visit the Zelenci Nature Reserve or take a ride through the idyllic alpine village of Podkoren. Before turning off towards Planica, you can take a detour through Rateče, where you can experience an adventure in the Escape Museum or stop at one of the many tavernas and restaurants, known far and wide for their exceptional offer of homemade food and drink. You can also stop at the Pehta log cabin, located under the Podkoren part of the ski resort, just before the turnoff for the Zelenci Nature Reserve. Here you can always try spoon dishes, croissants or authentic homemade sour milk.

There is a small swamp at the turn-off for Planica, which turns into a beautiful lake during the heavy rains in spring and autumn. In winter, of course, if the water level is favorable, the lake turns into a beautiful ice-skating rink in nature.

The last part of the trail is a bit steep and follows the regional road, which leads you directly under the mighty Planiška ski jumps, surrounded by the beautiful amphitheater of the many two-thousand-meter mountains of the Julian Alps. The cycling route to Planica is entirely asphalted. If you have mountain bikes, you can cross the forest path at the back (left, at the turn-off for Zelenci), but you will probably have to get off your bike a few times in between, as the path is more suitable for walkers. You can also continue by mountain bike from Planica further into the Tamar valley, all the way to the lodge in Tamar. The macadam trail is wide and well-maintained, but it is quite steep, certainly suitable for those in better shape and probably not suitable for younger children.

WHERE TO NEXT?

From Planica to Belopeska jezera
From Rateče to Tromeja (Triple Border)
Kranjska Gora, Slovenia

The route is suitable for mountain bikers!

The Tamar Valley is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in the Triglav National Park and is extremely popular with hikers, mountain bikers, and cross-country skiers. It is bordered by the mighty walls of the mountains Visoka Ponca (2,228m), Kotova Špica (2,376m), Jalovec (2,645m)… There is also the source of the Nadiža River, which sinks into the gravel at the foot and reappears in the Zelenci Nature Reserve. It also serves as a starting point for hikes and ascents of the surrounding mountains. The path is macadam and well maintained, suitable for children.

Tamar chapel and the Tamar Lodge

The Tamar Valley is a continuation of the world-famous Planica Valley, where world championships in ski jumping, ski flying, and other Nordic disciplines are held. We recommend, among other things, that you visit the museum located in the Planica Nordic Centre.

How to get there

From the Reset Apartments, turn left and follow the cycle path towards Podkoren, just below the Vitranc ski slopes. You continue until the end of the ski slopes, where the Pehta log cabin is located. Here you can always try spoon dishes, croissants, or authentic homemade sour milk. If you have time, you can also explore the Zelenci nature reserve, which is on the opposite side of the cycling route.

Continue along the cycling route until you reach the regional road, where you turn left towards Planica, but we recommend that at the end of the plain, a few minutes walk from the Pehta log cabin, you turn left onto the forest track, which will take you through the forest directly to Planica. The path through the forest is also much shorter and more interesting, especially for children.

If you have younger children or you are not in the best shape, we recommend that you finish the trip with a visit to the Planica Nordic Centre and the ski jumps and then return. Alternatively, you can drive and start your journey to Tamar only in Planica.

At the end of Planica, you have two options. You can continue along the wide, macadam track (left) or head through the forest (right) on a track that is intended for cross-country skiers in winter and is popular with mountain bikers in summer. Both trails take you all the way to the end of the Tamar valley, directly below the mighty walls of the Jalovec mountain. Here you will find the Tamar lodge, one of the most popular excursion spots in the entire area. The lodge is open all year round and offers visitors the chance to rest and enjoy good local food and drink.

Activities

The road to Tamar is a full-day trip, especially if you take in all the sights along the way. It’s quite a long walk, so plan at least a lunch stop. On the way, you can explore the Zelenci Nature Reserve, see the ski jumps, and zipline down the Planica Giant (you have to pre-book online for the zipline). You can also try free-falling in the wind tunnel or play a round of Disc golf on the greens below the ski jumps. We also recommend visiting the Ski Jumping Museum, located in the Planica Nordic Centre.

In the middle of the world-famous valley famous for its legendary ski flights, the Planica Nordic Centre is a museum of Planica’s history and tradition. It showcases the achievements and records that have shaped the Slovenian ski jumping scene and its development during the 1980s, starting with the record set in 1934. On these ski jumps, for the first time in the world, a record of over one hundred and two hundred metres was broken. On the first floor you will learn all about Stanko Bloudek and the Bloudek Giant, and on the second floor you will learn all about the famous Gorišek brothers.

The technical development of ski jumping with all the equipment and interesting facts about this winter sport are also presented. There are not only two ski jumping simulators where visitors can try out the role of ski jumpers, but even an interactive station to try out the role of a ski jumping judge. Peter Prevc, Jurij Tepeš, Franci Petek, and other ‘Eagles’ will talk to you on the hologram. Every year, at the end of the winter season, thousands of enthusiastic fans from all over the world gather in this very place to support the brave young ski jumpers.
